Student Life

The Barrett Honors experience extends far beyond the classroom. Barrett students have access to several cultural and social events, internship and research activities that compliment the academic experience, and a wealth of programs and services that come with the benefit of attending a large Research I institution at ASU. There are many ways to enrich your undergraduate honors experience. Barrett students take advantage of a variety of opportunities that include serving the local Phoenix Metropolitan community, and participating in leadership roles both within the college and the ASU community.

There are great benefits to joining a student organization, working on campus or serving as a resident assistant in the Barrett Living and Learning community on campus. Many students also find fulfillment in a variety of community services opportunities through the college that include serving as mentors to underprivileged children in local school districts. The Barrett Honors College Council is a chapter of the ASU student government association and they sponsor a variety of events tailored for Barrett students. Many students also choose to join the Barrett Student Leadership and Service Team (BLAST) to both support signature college events and create new events. Several students serve as Honors Devils and Ambassadors to recruit individuals like themselves to the college.

Barrett collaborates with Residential Life on campus to provide both a unique honors Living and Learning Community environment, state of the art facilities and services, and programming for Barrett students. Center Complex staff that include directors and community assistants in the Barrett Residence Halls are very committed to supporting students around the clock.

Barrett students participate in several signature college events that include National Scholar Recognition Day whereby national scholars are recognized on the field in front of several thousand fans at the first ASU football game. Celebrating Honors is an occasion for upper division students to showcase their research to the entire university community. During Family Weekend the deans, faculty and staff play students in the annual Barrett Cup softball tournament and parents attend the Student Experience Showcase highlighting individual student talent, achievement and engagement. Barrett students discuss everything from their art to internship experiences on Wall Street. Barrett students also attend lectures and have the opportunity to dine with individuals recognized for outstanding achievement in their field. Many students take advantage of subsidized tickets to the Phoenix symphony, theatre shows at Gammage and professional sporting events. Go Diamondbacks!

We strongly encourage students to explore many of the opportunities listed on this website.
