Mandatory Orientation
All incoming freshmen are expected to attend an ASU Orientation session. To make a reservation for orientation, go to http://www.asu.edu/admissions/orientation/.
At the orientation you will learn about majors, register for classes, meet fellow freshmen, and find out about meal plans, resident life, financial aid, career services, and much more. The orientation includes an informative presentation by a Barrett academic advisor for incoming honors students and their parents. Barrett advisors are available throughout the class registration part of the day to answer questions you have. Generally these programs begin in March and students are encouraged to attend a session as soon as possible. If you live outside of Arizona, please consider attending one of the out-of-state orientations. These are usually held in or near Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, Northern California and Southern California. Instead of flying to Tempe, we come to you! National Merit Scholars are strongly encouraged to attend a Scholars Orientation. While not every academic college participates in all orientation dates, a Barrett advisor is present at every orientation session.
If you are unable to attend an orientation program for any reason, please contact your major advisor to schedule a mandatory advising appointment before registering for classes. Here is the ASU advising directory to locate your major advisor: http://universitycollege.asu.edu/advising/directory/
Barrett Orientation Overview (.pdf)
Barrett provides a vast array of activities and events in the week prior to the start of fall classes. This exciting time, known as Welcome Week, is an opportunity to get acquainted with the campus, learn traditions, and become familiar with available services and resources. Participants will also have the chance to interact with other new students and families, and meet faculty and staff. Information about Fall Welcome Week activities is mailed to incoming students in July.
