Checklist

  • Read the Thesis/Creative project handbook posted on the Barrett website. Just understanding the process will alleviate most concerns and reinforce it is a very manageable exercise


  • Prepare questions regarding the process and meet your Barrett honors advisor and the faculty honors disciplinary advisor in your department


  • Attend a thesis workshop


  • Choose a topic that you have a passion for and one that can assist you with future goals


  • Select a thesis/creative project committee director


  • Register for the appropriate thesis course (XXX492 and XXX493) through your director’s department


  • Select the second reader in collaboration with your thesis director


  • Write your prospectus, have it reviewed and signed by your committee


  • Submit your prospectus to the Barrett Advising office by the deadline relative to your graduation date


  • Designate a third reader with help from your director and notify the Barrett Advising office of your choice at least one month prior to the defense


  • Complete and file (if appropriate) the thesis reimbursement application (see section VI)


  • Communicate your progress and timeline regularly with your committee


  • Revise your prospectus as necessary


  • Prepare final manuscript with the guidance of your committee


  • Present at your oral defense and have your title page correctly formatted and signed by your committee


  • Submit your unbound and immaculate manuscript to the Barrett Advising office with correctly formatted Title page containing original signatures (not photocopied) of all committee members


  • Confirm that your thesis/creative project director submitted a grade for the completed project and changed the Z or I grade if one was submitted in a prior semester (for 492)
