Barrett Writing Center
Director: Dr. Tom Martin

The Barrett Writing Center is open for scheduled 25-minute or 55-minute tutoring appointments in Best C 114B Monday through Saturday. The times when specific tutors are available can be found in the tutor schedule. A 55-minute appointment may be best for those with full drafts. To make an appointment for regular hours, stop by the BHC Computer Lab in Best C or call 480-965-8423. Please make sure you specify the block you want (i.e. 25 or 55 minutes), starting with the time listed.

Walk-ins during the hours listed on the above tutor schedule are welcome. As long as a tutor does not already have an appointment, students can see a tutor immediately.

Tutors are available to meet with students by appointment only on days/times outside of the BWC’s regularly scheduled hours. Students and tutors meet in Best C 114C, the BHC Computer Lab, for these appointments. Follow this procedure for off-schedule appointments ONLY!! For regular hours appointments, please call the phone number above. Your e-mail message should include your name, phone number, e-mail address, and the name of your BHC professor. Please note that you should only consider these off-schedule appointments as having been scheduled when your e-mail is confirmed by a return e-mail or phone message from the BWC tutor. View the tutors who are available for these appointments .

Be sure to make the most of your tutoring session. After scheduling an appointment gather the following items to bring with you:

1. Your paper assignment sheet and any notes you took when your professor was discussing expectations for the paper.
2. Any written paper-writing guidelines your professor may have passed out.
3. The most recent draft of the paper you are working on (including notes such as outlines, quotations you plan to use, etc.)
4. The text(s) you are using to support your thesis.
5. If you were referred to the BWC by your professor, bring the student information and referral sheets he or she gave you.
6. Any previous papers graded by your professor, as the written comments may aid the tutor as you work together to improve a specific component of the academic argument.
7. Any additional material you think will be helpful.
